About me now. I've been working for myself as an Internet consultant for a few years now after falling victim to the all too common corporate downsizing trend. I was tired of all the corporate political games and such, so I struck out on my own. I soon became bothered by all the crazy stuff on the Internet, so I've taken all my life and business experiences and developed Ur2rN.com. Previous to becoming a consultant, I worked for SIEMENS Business Services contracted out to Microsoft Corp for ten years. This experience was invaluable. Oh the stories I could tell..........
If you believe in irony, check this out. Before developing Ur2rN, I created a Search Engine with the goal of donating 50% of my earnings to charities. Certain Internet powers that be, made it difficult to be profitable. One day I get an offer from a broker to buy my domain SearchandGive.com. After some negotiations, I got a small sum for it and let my dream go. I checked on it a bit later, and what do you know....Microsoft is doing what I had envisioned, but not quite. They donate a small percentage and not 50% which was my goal. I didn't get to give to charities on the scale I wished for, but I chalk it up to 'great minds think alike'.
After the above experience, I then saw a flaw in my idea. Even though I had had good intent of giving my earnings away, it doesn't fix the fact that advertising on the few giant websites that can provide decent traffic is too costly and ineffective for the majority who try it. The only way to remedy this to give it away. So that's what I'm going to do now. My current search engine is a work in progress, so please be patient as it comes together. I've already spent my life savings, so I need to make a few bucks before I get it the way I want.
Long story short. Life is a journey in which we learn as we go, and is always an opportunity to better ourselves and help our fellow man. I'm not doing this whole thing to get rich, but it would be nice to make a living. If for some crazy reason I prosper more than what I need, I'll still go on the record that I will give 50% to charitable organizations. Philanthropy on this scale from more people would surely make the world a better place.
My other passion in life is music. I really hope to devote more time to practicing my guitar and overcoming my shyness so I can entertain people. Music just seems to have a magical effect on the soul. I really really really need to make this pursuit a part of my daily routine.
Anyway......I wish you the best in following your dreams and goals. Just remember this. You'll never get it if you don't try, and you just might be surprised and get it if you ask for it.
